Oor Story

Middleshade is a wee perfumery on a workin lavender fairm in Kinross-shire.

The first lavender went intae the grund in 2015 - a field that had previously grown arable cereals, a diversification project as muckle as onything. By 2017 we were distillin oor ain oil, an the perfumery grew oot o havin mair lavender than we kent whit tae dae wi.

The Ferm

The ferm's in rural Kinross-shire - a mosaic o lavender fields, wildflower meadows, young woodland, an botanical plots. Alangside the lavender we grow a range o complementary aromatic plants - mints, sage, chamomile - that find their wey intae the perfumes.

Hoo we wirk the land matters tae us. Soil care, biodiversity, pollinator habitat. The fairm's also Scotland's only commercial lavender fairm - there's a wheen smaller plantins, maistly closer tae gairdens than commercial operations, but naethin else at this scale.

The fairm has its ain website (link below) if ye want tae read mair aboot the agricultural side o whit we dae, or arrange a visit.

Why We Exist

Some o oor scents lean heavily on whit we grow. Scottish Lavender maist obviously. Ithers use it mair lichtly, alangside ingredients we source frae suppliers we've wirked wi for years. Oud disnae grow this faur north, nor dae roses at ony commercial scale. We grow whit we can here in Scotland.

Awthing's blendit an bottled by haund, in wee batches, in the fairm workshop, an shipped frae the fairm.
